Starting as a field level Gulf Coast drilling fluid engineer in 1978, Richard Lanthier, the major principal of Outsource Fluid Services first introduced the concept of an independent drilling and completion fluid firm in 1982, as Technical Fluid Services, later to become Application Technologies, which operated until 2007, whereas the personnel of the company joined Fluids Management, later purchased by AES Drilling Fluids.  During this time, the executive management of Outsource Fluid Solutions were instrumental in developing inhibitive water base fluids for reactive Gulf Coast formations, introduced the concept of outside fluid monitoring of completion fluids, implemented the concept of client owned synthetic drilling fluids, provided services in the international arena, and managed hundreds of high pressure land, inland, offshore, and international fluid programs.

First, introduced to non conventional shale drilling in North Texas, we worked closely with clients in introducing innovative fluid technologies for performance enhancement, while fully understanding the challenges associated with both training rig personnel and associated fluid characteristics, such as pressure control, whole mud loss,  and hole cleaning.  These developments and documented processes utilized as the basis for subsequent successes in the Northeast, Midcontinent, Rockies, and most recently the Permian.

With our drilling industry reminiscent of the down-turn of the 80's, we are once again witnessing a decimation of personnel and experience levels, further substantiating our service offering.  Having personally trained a large majority of our technical representatives, the customer is insured consistency in the execution of a thoroughly prepared plan.  A time proven process of daily communication, developed by OFS management, insures that each person involved in a project will receive via email an executive summary of  daily fluid operations, detailing what has been accomplished and our goals for the next 24 hours.   The process eliminates time consuming phone calls and is imperative to insuring that the agreed fluid plan is accomplished in a documented fashion.  Once the project is complete, the client will receive in an expedient manner, not only a drilling fluid record, but details associated with ongoing improvement and further reduction in drilling fluid expenditures.

An old friend and customer coined a phrase in the early 80's,"so goes the mud, so goes the hole", and these words of wisdom echo louder today.  Allowing Outsource Fluid Solutions to provide it's compliment of services, insures independence from the product provider, allowing the operator to take full advantage of the aggressive product pricing now being offered, and realize the desired reductions in fluid expenditures, without sacrificing performance.   In today's combined services environment, the line between operator and service company is often blurred.  Offering independent fluid supervision and process development is not a secondary business to Outsource Fluid Solutions, it's our only business., and we still understand and respect the meaning of the term "service company".  The pride in our company is further reflected by an extensive list of references available at the customer's request.
